"Shape-woven Visiting Shawl In Orange Cashmere - France Circa 1850"
Circa 1850/1855 France Never seen before! A woven shawl with a cut-out throw that adorns the shoulders of elegant crinoline ladies from the end of the Louis Philippe period. Abundant plant decor laden with boteh with undulating stems reaching up into the bright orange central reserve. This type of Visite stole, made available on a Jacquard loom, was initiated by Amédée Couder at the Paris Universal Exhibition of 1839 and notably produced by the Maison Parisienne Fortier, for the examples listed. A vintage stop repair of 1 cm, and 4 to 5 tiny moth holes, clean and very resistant. Very good condition of color and conservation. Dimensions: 71 cm high in the back, total wingspan 270 cm, width of the front panels 40 cm.
