"Child's Ceremonial Cape In Mohair Topstitched With Silk, In The Style Of Jeanne Lanvin - France C.1940"
Circa 1940, France. Child's ceremonial cape in ivory mohair, a thick, fluffy wool. The hooded cape, in the style of a burnous, features a silk tassel in the same color and is edged with a cream satin reverse, quilted in parallel rows, with a matching border around the cape's edge. It is unbranded but reminiscent of Jeanne Lanvin's designs, who frequently used quilted stitching in the lead-up to World War II. Jeanne Lanvin created a children's line, notably inspired by the close relationship she had with her daughter, which is reflected in the House's famous logo. The neckline is beautifully finished with hand-stitched organ-pleat detailing. The mohair wool is thick, light, and fluffy, perfect for snuggling a baby or young child. The hood is lined with Duchess silk satin. The only flaw is a small 4mm area of missing wool. This cape is very clean and in exceptional condition. Suitable for a child of approximately 5 years old. A piece to collect or wear. Dimensions: Height 67 cm, neck circumference 40 cm, hood circumference 53 cm, wingspan at base 114 cm.
