"A Prototype Of A Curtain Made Of Muslin Glued With Gouache-painted Paper - France, Early 20th Century"
Circa 1920, France. Prototype of a curtain for a door or window, made of cream cotton voile with a butter-like texture, hand-applied and glued gouache wallpaper. The valance has three pointed arches, scattered with bouquets and paper flowers with pistils. Two adjoining, rounded sloping sides (for a rounded doorway) are adorned with two laurel branches, suggesting the festive or commemorative nature of this unusual curtain. The border is decorated with neoclassical blue friezes and gold paper. There are a few creases in the paper, but no holes or stains. The curtain is in very good condition, both in terms of color and preservation. Dimensions: valance, width 206 cm, height 91 cm. Sloping sides, approximately 70 cm wide by 236 cm high.
