Curtain Or Door Panel In The Style Of The Ballets Russes, Jacquard-woven From Cotton—france, C. 1910
Circa 1910–1920
France
An imposing fringed curtain or drapery made of cotton jacquard, woven in the style of the artistic effervescence of Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes after 1909. Polychrome neo-Gothic motifs with an Orientalist touch in the style of Léon Bakst. Reversible-weave curtain (or drapery?) with long, polychrome wool fringes knotted on two sides. Note the silver threads in the weft (barely visible in the photos) that create brilliant reflections in the light. No defects other than a light dusting. Very good condition in terms of color and preservation. I have two others that will also be for sale.
Dimensions: 320 cm high by 123 cm wide, plus 10 cm fringes
