"Fez Ceremonial Kaftan In Gold Thread Brocade - Morocco 19th Century"
Second half of the 19th century. Morocco. Rare ceremonial kaftan from Fez in gold brocade dating from the 19th century. The banyan-style cut differs from 20th-century kaftans with its conical side panels, giving it a tapered shape. The trim consists of gold thread passementerie at the collar, on the front closure with bell-shaped buttons and loops, with a matching motif at the cuffs and on the two side slits. The background is a rich and heavy brocade of gold thread covering the entire surface. The design, typical of Fez manufactories, is embroidered with silk medallions adorned with roses. The lining is a later yellow taffeta (with small holes and stains). The ceremonial garment is heavy, as this kaftan weighs approximately four kilograms. Note the slight oxidation of the brocade, crease marks, and a large, barely visible stain at the lower back. In stable condition. A collector's item that may be wearable. Dimensions: Large. Measured flat: Height 130 cm, shoulders 58 cm, width 74 cm, sleeves 41 cm.
