Cashmere is an animal fiber, obtained from the long, silky undercoat of cashmere goats.
It belongs to the family of endemic species, whose production and manufacture are limited to the goats' native geographical area, a territory extending from northern Indo-Pakistani Kashmir to northern Mongolia.
In winter, to protect the goats from the icy winds (between (At temperatures between -30°C and -40°C), a dense undercoat of fine, soft hairs forms beneath their summer coat.
This dark grey undercoat is sheared or brushed off during the spring molt on the goats' chests.
It is sometimes then bleached using a rice flour preparation, then dyed in various colors before being woven, washed, assembled with imperceptible seams and surrounded by a border that frames the designs.
