Travel Coffee Grinder - 18th Century
Lyon-made grinder with cylindrical sheet iron body, terminated at the ends by brass cylinders.
The mechanism operates as follows: once the handle is removed from its axis, the user gains access to a sliding compartment designed to hold the coffee beans.
After grounding, the ground coffee is collected in the lower compartment.
The handle bears the initials H.L likely those of the maker.
As for the lid, it is engraved with the initials D.M, corresponding to its owner.
The iron cylinder was originally covered in leather now lost, it features a mechanism secured by two flat-head screws.
A comparable model is held in the collection of the Musée Le Secq Des Tournelles Collection, Inv. LS1893
Very good overall condition, slight rust bloom, signs of use.
