Medieval Wrought Iron Belt Buckle Element - 14th Century
It features a decoration composed of two protrusions that may be likened to so-called “kidney” forms.
These recall daggers bearing the same name, a symbole of masculine exuberance.
The passage of time has given the iron a surface reminiscent of bone.
This buckle comes from an important French collection of buckles and retains old collection labels.
Comparable “kidney”-shaped daggers are preserved in the collections of the Musée de l’Armée.
Very good overall condition, with wear consistent with use and light surface oxidation.
