Charcoal-grilled Egg, 18th-century Recipe By M. De Chavagniat, Wrought Iron

Artist: Art Populaire
A long roasting fork for hearth kitchen, very finely forged, with a turned knob, a long shank that starts round and then becomes square in cross-section, bearing the name of its owner in a long engraving, remarkably calligraphed in capital letters: M.de Chavagnat-Reydellet.
The shaft ends in an open-forged tip, forming two triangular prongs: a truly beautiful piece of work!
I have the impression— (though I may be mistaken), that the owner asked this talented blacksmith to delicately curve the tips of prongs in order to hold, present, or cook an egg on the embers—or even a potato, among other things.
I tried it: the result is quite convincing—the egg sits securely, and the angle is excellent.
Once the prongs are returnedto their original alignment, the object once again becomes a magnificent hearth fork, 81 cm long, superbly engraved and forged in the 18th century.
Dimensions: 81 cm × 5.5 cm.  Weight: 300 g.,
