Moustiers With Beautiful Grotesques, Olerys, 18th Century, Outstanding Condition
Fine shaped deep platter with a contoured rim, decorated in polychrome grand feu enamels with four particularly picturesque grotesque figures. They stand upon small mounds amidst an abundantly flowering landscape, arranged on a diagonal axis to the left to create a strong sense of movement, further enhanced by the flight of insects and a bird.
I am especially fond of the griffin-drawn chariot...
The glaze is in superb condition, exceptionally clear and free from noticeable scratches.
Condition report: a small chip underneath the rim at one corner, together with some wear to rim. The piece rings well when tapped and has not been restored.
The underside bears no mark that might help us attribute it more precisely.
