Lacquer Cigar Case, Portrait Of Philosopher, And Pouch, Circa 1850
Beautiful object, a cigar case, circa 1850, (at period, cigarette did not yet exist, popular cigars were cigarillos), it is a leather pouch forming bellows, defended by two plaques of lacquered papier-mâché, hand-decorated, one shows the portrait of an antic philosopher, second: cigars with gold.
Inside, another pouch, from green leather damask with gold, a little tired, but easy to repair.
Dimensions: 13.5cm x 7cm x 2.5cm.
Condition is quite good, wear from use,
Probably work from Brunswick (lackdosen) circa 1850-70, exported all over the world and often imitated.
