Pair Of Crab Baskets, Woven Brass Vases, Japan, 19th Century,
Artist: Art Du Japon
Superb Japanese objects, naturalists, two vases from brass braiding, in shape of basket bags that fishermen used to bring back crabs.
Entirely braided, resting on a circled and caned oval base, these are two vases with flattened body, with beautiful openwork basketwork transverse on centre, on which two small silver-plated metal crabs still hang, each vase is fit by two light handles, elegantly knotted, there is on each a small attachment hook, neck is circled with more solid brass.
The whole is flexible, deformable and light. 22cm x 14cm x 8cm
Superb art objects, Japanese work, Meiji period of export to the West.
Good condition, some "pulled threads", or to be tightened with pliers, beautiful patina.
