Fine rectangular sand-cast bronze plaque, probably produced by a Parisian workshop during the first half of the 19th century. The Emperor stands with his arms crossed, seemingly chafing at his confinement upon his rock, in a composition that conveys the solitude and distress of exile.

This plaque, conceived in the popular tradition, displays a fine quality of execution, with a delicate border, hand-chased finishing, a carefully textured ground, and particularly well-rendered details of the costume. Even the woven texture of the Emperor’s waistcoat can be discerned. Suspension loop to the reverse.

Attractive reddish-brown patina, well preserved.
