Large 19th Century Impressionist - Seaside & Riders On The Beach - Anton Mauve & A .j- Munnigs
Large & interesting impressionist painting from the late 19th century or early 1900 , depicting a luminous seaside landscape with three horsemen riding on a beach...The painting is unsigned but its quality suggests the presence of an excellent artist: the effects of clouds in the sky have been treated with "maestria" whichcreates a profound poetic feeling, very reminiscent of the manner of Eugène Boudin (1824-1898)...ditto for the touches of color that can be seen on the on the riders, showing a remarkably elaborate technique...technique... Objectively, it's great art!
ANTON MAUVE & ALFRED James MUNNIGS:the troubling aspect of this painting is that one would be tempted to think of a French Impressionist, but a search from the web, identifies two related works from which the author here was obviously inspired: see these two paintings, one by the Belgian painter Anton Mauve (1838-1888) entitled "Promenade matinale sur une plage" ,and the other by the English painter Alfred James Mennigs(1878-1959) entitled "Horses on Beach"/last shots .
Mark: it's the kind of painting that merits investigation to try to identify its attempt to identify its author and try to obtain an attribution: indeed indeed, Alfred Munnigs and Anton Mauve are renowned artists who have had prestigious painters in their entourage, notably Anton Mauvewho was the cousin of Vincent Van Gogh, who was in fact his pupil / notice to research enthusiasts -.
Note athin natural crack running horizontally across the wood panel horizontal direction, visible at rider level, but without any realreal consequences on the quality of the work -
