DRAGOON OFFICER'S SABER, known as a "battle guard" sword, First Empire. 33693. Brass hilt. Six-branch guard forming an openwork palmette-shaped shell at the front, known as a "battle guard." Octagonal pommel with a short tail decorated with lines. Wooden grip covered in black waxed calfskin, copper wire inlay. Scarlet cloth sword knot. Curved, fullered blade, 94 cm long, engraved on its first third with military trophies and floral decorations, and three fleurs-de-lis concealed by flowers. Black varnished leather scabbard with three brass mounts decorated with lines and scalloped edges, brass chape. France. First Empire. Very good condition, some oxidation on the blade. The blade is a reused blade from the end of Louis XVI's reign, as evidenced by the fleurs-de-lis concealed by flowers. There is some fragility in the center of the scabbard, but no tear.
