Heavy Cavalry Honor Saber

Sabre of Honour of the Heavy Cavalry awarded to the Sergeant of the Logis BOUTTET, of the 2nd Regiment of Carabiniers. Silver palmette-shaped guard hallmarked with the 1* rooster (1798-1809), old man's head 88, hallmark of the silversmith Jean Masson. Curved blade marked “Manufacture de Klingenthal Couleaux frères Entreprise”, hallmarked with the M of Mouton and the L of Levavasseur, scabbard with two silver fittings, bearing the inscription: “Le Jer Consul au Cen Bouttet, Maréchal des Logis Chef au 2ème Rée des Carabiniers. Provenance: Beaupaire Collection, Drouot 1980 BOUTTET Pierre François Son of Georges BOUTTET, Labourer - and Anne Picard Born on January 26, 1772 in CHAMBON, Loiret Married Died on April 29, 1835 in LUNEVILLE Height 1 m 71 - brown hair and eyebrows - red eyes - large nose - medium mouth - round chin - oval face marked with smallpox. Knight of the Legion of Honor on September 24, 1803. Patent of Honor of Sabre in the rank of Marshal of Chief Logis of the 2nd Carabinieri Regiment, dated 10 Prairial year 11. Citation: "He showed great bravery at the crossing of the Lahn, on 19 Messidor year 4 where despite two serious wounds to the thigh and arm he refused to surrender and by his courage facilitated the retreat of his detachment. - His injuries, the consequences of which left him with unpleasant inconveniences, prevented him from accepting the rank of officer offered to him by the Chief of Corps; he fulfilled the obligations of his rank with all the knowledge of detail and the probity necessary for this position - He is one of the most distinguished subjects of the Regiment. Services: Entered the service, engaged for one year - Carabinier in the 2nd Rée on May 31, 1793 - Returned to the Corps on Pluviose 24, year 5 - Brigadier on Frimaire 14, year 7 - Brigadier Fourrier on the 16th of the same month - Sergeant Major on Brumaire 11, year 8 - Dismissed on Fructidor 13, year 11, having obtained from the Government a position as special receiver of contributions in the department of Escaut. He made 9 campaigns with the Regiment.
