Light cavalry officer's saber, "Hussars or Chasseurs". First Empire. Bronze hilt with silver remnants. Single-branch guard decorated with an olive and four rings; oval quillons, pommel with a short, scalloped tail in relief, known as "melon sides". Finely checkered wooden grip. Curved, fullered blade engraved and gilded with trophies of arms and floral decorations on a blued ground, found in an attic. Overall length 87 cm. Blade length 73.5 cm. France. First Empire, circa 1800. Sold as is.
