A round brass turban, its base fitted with a gutter to prevent water from seeping under the turban. The turban consists of a leather band. The visor is made of leather, sewn to the bottom of the turban, and is edged with a brass band folded over the outer edge. A stamped brass rosette in the shape of a palmette completes the design. The tubular brass plume holder is secured with a screw. The crest is made of brass with stamped relief decoration; the wings have gadroons on each side; the mask depicts a Medusa head and a palmette at the bottom. The frill is composed of a lens of black horsehair tied and tightly bound at the top, before blossoming into a tuft. The mane is made of black horsehair. The inner lining consists of a camel leather band (Egyptian Campaign). The whole is in good condition, see photos. France. Directory / Condulary / First Empire
