A student of Jacques-Louis David, he exhibited at the Salon from 1814 to 1844. He married Laure Lay (1801-1869). Their son Isidore Joseph Félix Pineau du Pavillon was a house painter and their daughter Marie Emma Pineau du Pavillon was a printer. He died in Paris at the age of 66. He was buried in the Montparnasse cemetery on June 15, 1856.
