Medieval Paving Tile From The 13th-14th Century – Interlacing Pattern
Medieval Paving Tile, 13th-14th Century – Interlacing Motif.
Rare medieval paving tile (late 13th – early 14th century) probably from Koksijde (Flanders) or the Saint-Omer region. The reverse bears the inscription "Coxyde, Saint Omer? XIVe," confirming its Flemish or Saint-Omer origin. The tile features a finely worked interlacing motif around a floral design, typical of northern France, Flanders, and southern England.
The motif is executed in yellow slip on a brown background, retaining its original glaze in excellent condition.
Identical examples are preserved in the crypt of the Church of Our Lady in Nieuwpoort (Belgian Flanders), attesting to the quality and widespread use of this type of decoration at the time.
Dimensions: 5.9 cm × 5.9 cm × 1.8 cm.
A rare and precious example of medieval decorative art, perfect for collectors or history enthusiasts.
