Kilim - Cuval. Anatolia. Circa 1920. 140 X 110 Cm
In a state of near-miraculous preservation, a very beautiful Cuval originating from the Gaziantep region in southeastern Anatolia. Cuvals belong to the category of everyday objects once used by nomadic populations for transporting and storing grain. These were woven by the finest weavers. The idea was not simply to have a utilitarian and robust object, but also a true work of art, bringing joy and pride to their owners. The geometric patterns in the central section are entirely embroidered using a second weft thread. One can observe and appreciate the dexterity and infinite precision of these patterns, which seem literally sculpted from the material. It is truly great art! Wool on wool. Magnificent, deep, and luminous plant-based dyes. Circa 1920. Perfect condition. Dimensions: 140 x 110 cm. Laurent Beauty of Kilims
