Cicim Kilim Konya Anatolia Early XX 250 X 160 Cm
Superb Cicim from Konya, Central Anatolia.
Cicim, pronounced "djidjim", are woven, fully embroidered pieces. Most ancient pieces, like this one, covered the walls of nomadic tents.
The distinguishing feature linked to its antiquity: the piece is composed of two panels joined and sewn together.
It's easy to see that there's no symmetry in this piece: width and length differ, as do the choice of shades in each of the panels. This is precisely what reveals that, in nomadic craftsmanship, perfection was not a criterion;
beauty lies in this freedom to be different and imperfect, not to be rigid or limited by an exact pattern.
A work of great elegance, magnificent as a wall hanging or curtain.
Fine embroidery, executed with remarkable precision.
Sheep's wool on goat's wool. Vegetable dyes.
