Double Open Dromedary Bag. Bathiyari - Persia. Circa 1900. 185 X 100 Cm1 Cm

The piece is iconic, as rare as it is atypical. It's a double Bathiyari open camel saddlebag from Persia.
This type of piece is usually found in later productions around the mid-20th century. This one is remarkable in every way, and dates from the very end of the 19th century. There is relatively little information on this object in specialized literature, yet it is identifiable at first glance. Importantly, this is not a patchwork quilt in which the various elements have been assembled and sewn together. On the contrary, each part, each technique, is built on the same chain. All the different weaving, knotting and embroidery techniques can be seen on the same surface. The central part is made of sumak, while the ends are woven and embroidered. Two other distinct sections are knotted with thick velvet. These two parts correspond exactly to the folds at the bottom of each bag. The use of knotted stitch on the most fragile parts of the bags, their bottoms, is ingenious and contributes to the robustness of the object.

Exclusively vegetable colors in perfect harmony. The indigo blues are ravishing.
The piece is in near-miraculous condition.
