Object description :

"Kirman Carpet, Floral Decoration, 142 X 212 Cm, Hand-knotted Wool & Silk Circa 1890-1900, Iran, Kadjar"
Classically made, this model is the archetype of the naturalist style among the Kirman.
The vase of roses, which is one of the most famous motifs, is repeated on an ivory background (see white for other Kirman) for this genre.
Nowadays, they are still tied, but their colors are stronger, even more garish.
Floral Kirman or Kerman carpet, Iran around 1890-1900 in wool and silk, hand-knotted.
It measures 142 cm wide by 212 cm long, with a density of approximately 650,000 knots per m2.
Although originating from the Iranian city of Kirman, from which these carpets are named, a major production region, no piece is more than one hundred and fifty years old today.
Indeed, carpet weaving only started in this region around 1880.
Our model, although showing wear and tear, is nonetheless a sublime artifact of the Kadjar culture and the creation of these Kirman
# The Kirman is often decorated with flowers and most of the time has a medallion that stands out on a plain background.
For these models the motifs of the medallion are repeated in the border and the four spandrels, (corners).
Some of these carpets also offer large animal scenes.
Our model comes from the city of Kirman, presents a magnificent decoration of numerous bouquets and interlacing, of great delicacy and great beauty.
Kerman is the largest city in the South-East of Iran and is the capital of the province of the same name. The reputation of Kirman carpets and raver is due to the excellence of the "Ostads", these designers of cartons of incredible skill have been able to keep the sense of tradition of these large Persian carpets.
The deep harmony of colors results from a perfect dosage which testifies to the great creativity of the craftsmen of Kirman.
The finest carpets are the most admirable and the most beautiful, the more the number of knots is important more the carpet is fine, and sought after by amateurs and collectors.
## Some Kirman are designated under the name of Laver, alteration of Raver, city near Kirman where the carpets are knotted in a very careful way. The old Laver are characterized by a large polylobed medallion, roughly oval or rhomboidal on an ivory background (our model), or a decoration of vases placed in tiers.
These two types of carpets are extremely rare nowadays and have a chromatic delicacy particular to the old Kirman.
This category of carpet rightly counts among the best of the production of Iran.
Many animals, hares and turtledoves frolic along the border.
## A model of the same type is present at the Golestan Museum in Tehran.
Fineness of execution, delicacy of the colors, quality of the materials used make it a collector's item.
The Kadjar dynasty or Kadjars (Qājār, Qajar, Qajar, Persian: قاجار ) is a Turkmen dynasty that ruled Iran from 1786 to 1925.
This piece is in good condition for its age, without restoration, and has been professionally and ecologically cleaned.
