In a state of preservation that borders on the miraculous, a superb Qashqai Khorjin from Persia.
All the artistry of ancient Persian weaving is captured in this small, resplendent treasure.
Khorjins are saddlebags once used by the nomadic peoples of Persia. They are often double saddlebags. This piece can therefore be considered a fragment, a single saddlebag.
The knotted side reveals variations in indigo blue hues, ranging from deep midnight blue to lighter tones. This is known as Abrash. The pile is approximately 1 cm long; to the touch, one can feel the extreme softness of the hand-spun wool. Sensational.
The central motif is a stylized scorpion containing a floral pattern. This scorpion powerfully and prominently symbolizes protection against the evil eye.

The fastening system at the top is intact; it is woven. The front is knotted with a short pile. The back is woven. Here again, one will appreciate the alluring presence of several shades of indigo blue.
