Plumier Ceramic Claude Agier Mollinari
Artist: Claude Agier Mollinari
Here's another ceramic by French ceramist Claude Agier Mollinari.
It's part of a series of works based on ancient alphabets. Made by applying an ancient cylinder seal, this print reproduces the original representations exactly. The seal belonged to a private collector and was entrusted to the artist as part of his research and in view of Claude's obvious interest in cuneiform scripts.
The removable covers are engraved with signs representing a banquet scene with two characters and a historically attested ancient script.
This is by no means an invented or decorative script, but the cuneiform alphabetic system of Ugarit, consciously integrated into his artistic work.
The artist was able to work from original sources and authentic tools, giving this work a dimension that is at once scholarly, archaeological and conceptual. These engraved signs testify to her approach to the transmission and contemporary reinterpretation of ancient knowledge through ceramics.
The outer surface features a deliberately rough texture, but inside, we discover a crystalline-effect glaze with deep emerald-green hues, offering great visual richness and a strong organic dimension.
