Lovely little Nevers earthenware flask circa 1660, decorated in blue monochrome with flowers and a bird. These decorations are very classic for ceramics from this precise period.
The flask was carried thanks to 2 upper loops and 2 holes at the base originally designed to pass ties through.
Very good condition, except for a few tiny chips and enamel chips on the edge of the neck. No breakage or restoration on the neck and handles. An original enamel retraction on the oval base of the gourd, visible in the photos.
Dimensions:
Approximately 20cm height, 14cm width with the handles and 9cm depth
Apart from its condition, this piece's main interest is its rather unusual small size.
It is also amusing to see the oblique silhouette of this ceramic, deformed by its high-fire firing in a wood fire at over 1000°C. The creation process, with an unstable fire, could induce certain defects like here which at the same time create all their charm today !
