"Pesaro Or Deruta Earthenware, Apothecary's Jug "
To prepare his drugs, the apothecary mixed strange extracts, toad bile, urine, and other joys. Here this small jug with a strongly pinched spout, was in the pharmacy, certainly in full view with the other superb pots, on the shelves. The shape, as well as the rustic decoration of this container, brings it closer to the usual, but charming, productions of Pesaro or deruta in Italy. Still Renaissance in style, it will more likely have been made at the end of the 17th or the beginning of the 18th century. I thank anyone who would like to correct my hypothesis of provenance, in case of error, because I unfortunately do not have the pleasure of handling pieces from Italy every day. One certainty however, it is perfectly old and remains in excellent condition.
