"Oil On Paper Circa 1840: Portrait Of An Artist "
Painting oneself is a constant concern for the artist, each person responding to this question with their own character. While some choose to represent their attributes with a certain pomp, others choose a humorous wink. This is a bit of the path our painter chooses to represent himself in a rather original way, with a large newsboy cap, which hides his eyes in the shadow of the visor. We cannot help but smile at this modest staging, which requires a certain dexterity. The oil painted around 1830/1840, is done on paper, mounted at the time on a canvas. A restoration frame will be a more suitable choice, while waiting for it to remain discreet and protect our painting properly. The painting has been cleaned recently, which has given it a nice light. Dimensions without frame: 36 cm x 28 cm
