Germany ? 17th or early 18th c
2 powerful perpendicular jaws both stabilize the tool on a workbench and hold the workpiece.
All the rivets, clamping screws and crank handle are original, with a very fine patina from daily use over centuries.
Particularly noteworthy are the traces of metal hammering, surviving signs of the tool's original creation stage
