Object description :

"Sword Of General 1st Empire"
GENERAL'S SWORD – FIRST EMPIRE
Very fine fantasy model, combining all the attributes of generals.
Finely chiseled and gilded bronze hilt, both matte and shiny, decorated on the plate with a Gorgon's head, the imperial eagle and a lion's head in the hollow of the wings.
Two cornucopias are found under the Gorgon's head. Jupiter's head on the joint arc.
The quillon is in the shape of an eagle's head, the pommel represents a plumed helmet, and the scales are in mother-of-pearl.
Note that the counterplate is broken, which was sometimes done deliberately to facilitate the carrying of the sword.

Beautiful 77 cm blade, still retaining 75% of its gilt blue, with manufacturer's mark JS&C.
Lacquered leather scabbard, fitted with two decorated gilt bronze fittings, retaining approximately 70% of their gilding. The wool covering the scabbard and guard protection is still present.
There were many variations of these swords at the time.
