SABER OF THE IMPERIAL GUARD'S MARINERS' CORPS "MARINS DE LA GUDE", First Empire (1804-1815). 31153. Entirely brass saber with a leather scabbard, the model of which was created in 1804 by the cutler DUC. The guard has a single hollowed branch, 12.2 cm high without the quillon, and an outer quillon in the shape of a shield, 5.5 cm high, engraved with an anchor (completely worn). The guard branch terminates in a ball quillon stamped with the "DUC" hallmark. The crossguard is hollowed underneath. The pommel has a short tail, 8.9 cm high. The grip is made of wood covered in leather with straight brass wire wrapping. The Klingenthal blade has fullers, is 69.5 cm long, 4.3 cm at the ricasso, and 6.9 cm at the spine, approximately 1 cm thick at the ricasso, with a pronounced bevel at the point. It is engraved on each side "GARDE IMPÉRIALE" in large cursive letters within a cartouche featuring rope, an anchor, and palmettes, with a reeded back. The black waxed leather scabbard has three brass mounts, a brass chape, and brass rings. The suspension rings have brass studs. The scabbard is 72.5 cm long. The leather of the scabbard is stamped with an anchor (barely legible) under the suspension band in the middle of the scabbard. France. First Empire (1804-1815). Good condition, saber never cleaned, oxidation stains on the blade, the anchor engraved on the quillons is almost effaced and barely legible, the wooden scabbard linings have been removed, slight flaking to the leather of the scabbard, the brass wires of the chape and the end of the scabbard are missing but their positions on the leather are present.
