Blackened and waxed leather helmet, bomb interior lined with black shaved felt, visor band and other metal fittings in silver-plated brass, embossed silver state plate depicting the crowned Hessian lion, erect and brandishing a sword, framed by a sprig of fruited laurel leaves to the dexter and oak leaves to the sinister.
Officer-style cockade in the national colors of black-white-red and the state of Hesse, ribboned white with two red inner circles.
Blackened leather chinstraps covered with silver-plated brass scalloped cambered scales alternating two and three scallops.
Top scale of each chinstrap covered with a silver-plated brass movable rosette, independent of the chinstrap.
Bomb topped with a removable fluted tip, smooth throat pierced with four holes for ventilation of the headgear, on a cross-shaped base with lanceolate branch ends riveted by four half-spherical rivets. Sweatband in supple fawn leather, scalloped with wolf's teeth at the top, with two brown silk flaps covering the top of the skull. Vulcanized fiber counterplate inside the bomb.
