PAIR OF OFFICER'S SADDLE PISTOLS, Old Monarchy, reign of Louis XVI, circa 1760. 34641

Finely carved walnut stocks, varnished and inlaid with silver filigree, with polished steel fittings accented by fillets and chiseled with a delicate rocaille design: ear-shaped caps with buttons, trigger guards with a trigger bridge and trigger tail, and cleaning rod loops. Ornate square lock plates marked with a chisel in fine cursive script with the name of the arquebusier PHILIBERT BERARDIER, known in Toulouse around 1760. Matching counter-plates. Original blued fluted barrels, engraved on the muzzle with ornamental florets; the undersides of the flintlock pan are stamped in small capital letters with the name of the arquebusier-gunsmith “GEORGE” and “REV” (for inspector), along with a small crown on the side; he was active in Charleville around 1760.
Original stocks with steel inserts.
