Pair Of Queen Anne-style Scottish Flintlock Pistols With A Stock – Circa 1790
A pair of Queen Ann flintlock pistols with trunk.
Cylindrical barrels, finished with a bead, 12 mm caliber, stamped on the right side with the proof marks.
Canons and chests are in one piece.
Chests engraved with leafy garlands and engraved on the left side with the words "Vive la Garde de la Nation". Line-decorated espalet dogs with pull-back security. Facetted bassoons, also decorated in line, hinged by means of a blued blade spring.
Rounded trigger guard decorated with a "fleurette".
Whale baleen rods with metal tips (one missing): one for cleaning, the other for curb pull.
Walnut handles, round, plain. Oval silver thumb pieces set with a fine filigree of the same metal. They bear the owner's name "Belhomme" surmounted by a flaming grenade.
Folding bayonets in blued steel. They are held at rest, along the barrel, by means of a sliding pull tab under which their points are caught. They unfold automatically and are held firmly by a clever spring mechanism attached to the end of the barrel, when the pull rod is pulled back.
These guns can be dated to the mid-1790s.
Length :22 cm bayonet folded, 30 cm bayonet unfolded.
