The globe still bears its original label reading “J. Lebègue & Cie, Éditeurs, Paris – Globe Terrestre” and retains its richly detailed printed map surface, featuring attractive shades of green, ochre, and blue.

The sphere, which is particularly lightweight, is crafted using a traditional technique, with cartographic strips printed on paper and applied to a papier-mâché structure. It rests on a remarkable cast-iron tripod base, richly adorned with sculpted faces, foliage motifs, and imposing paw-shaped feet. The highly elaborate decoration of the base gives the globe a particularly sculptural and unusual presence.

The globe is held in place by an elegant metal arm featuring a screw-adjustment mechanism as well as a metal element at the upper pole. Over time, the various metal components have developed a beautiful dark patina.

The map surface shows clearly visible signs of age, including scuffs, scratches, marks, discoloration, and a few surface imperfections—all consistent with its age and long use. This authentic patina lends it a great deal of character while still revealing a remarkable amount of geographical detail.
