O.V. Mogensen (Orla Vagn Mogensen) is one of the true hidden champions of Danish Mid-Century silversmithing — a Copenhagen manufactory that produced services of an execution quality and silver weight superior to many better-known names, yet remaining known only to informed collectors. The Champagne service, designed by Quistgaard, is its most accomplished expression.
Jens Harald Quistgaard (Copenhagen, 1919 – Vordingborg, 2008), Danish sculptor and designer, was trained as a sculptor by his father Harald Quistgaard, and as a draughtsman and silversmith at the Technical School in Copenhagen. He received the gold and silver medals at the Milan Triennale in 1954 and the Lunning Prize the same year. From 1954 to the end of the 1970s, he served as artistic director of Dansk International Designs, whose creations became synonymous with Scandinavian design in the United States, Europe and Japan.
