Art Nouveau Silver Cutlery "Sommerfugl" / "Butterfly" — Denmark, c. 1900–1930
Pattern : Danish Sommerfugl (butterfly), English Butterfly. The designer and the first silversmith to produce this pattern have not been established with certainty. It is today regarded as a rare and highly sought-after Scandinavian Art Nouveau flatware pattern.
Design : Denmark, c. 1900/05. Produced primarily during the 1910s–1930s in Copenhagen, with isolated examples into the 1950s.
Material : Silver 830 (SØLV), handcrafted and hand-hammered.
Decoration : Hammer-finished handles with a sculpted butterfly in relief at the terminal of each handle — a characteristic Art Nouveau motif. The combination of organic natural form and refined craftsmanship makes this pattern a remarkable example of Scandinavian Art Nouveau (Skonvirke).
Hallmarks : Copenhagen city mark (three towers) with year letter, maker's mark and assay mark, "FRIGAST", "SØLV", "830".
Maker : Poul C. Lütken Frigast, Copenhagen. Other known patterns by the firm : Delfin, Rigs, Danish Crown, Princess Fuchsia. Frigast was among the leading Danish silversmiths of the early 20th century, renowned for high-quality silver flatware in the Art Nouveau and Art Déco styles.
Pieces : Complete canteens may include a wide range of items : table forks, knives and spoons, dessert and coffee spoons, mocha spoons, pastry forks ; supplementary pieces such as serving utensils, ladles, sugar tongs, napkin rings, salt cellars and tea strainers make each canteen individual and versatile.

"To dine with silver is to make a choice. Daily. Not for display, but for conviction. The conviction that a shared meal deserves a worthy setting — whether a grand feast for twenty or a quiet Sunday table for two. Silver is not decoration. It is a statement."
