95 x 83 cm.
Oil on its original canvas, in its gilded wooden frame.
In excellent condition.
Signed “van Wieck f. 1763.”
Louise de Paillez, daughter of Sieur Jean and Mademoiselle Marianne de Varèze, was 22 years old when, in 1745, she married Mre Albin Thomas Ignace de Saurin de Murat, son of Mre Charles de Saurin de Murat, Knight of the Military Order of Saint Louis, captain in the King’s Navy, and of Madame Élisabeth de Thézan, of the Counts of Poujol, from the city of Aix-en-Provence.
Louise de Paillez was therefore in her forties when this portrait was painted.
The flowers, rendered with almost botanical precision, and the tiny animals in the garlands are characteristic of the Flemish school.
The rendering of the face, the dress, and the hands is exceptionally well done.
Van Wieck (Wyck?) is a talented painter who has yet to be identified.
