18th-century French School - Portrait Of Queen Marie Leszczyńska (1703–1768)
The painting measures 68 × 58 cm (image size) and 62 × 42 cm (including the frame).
The work has been re-stretched and is presented in its original gilded stucco frame, which is finely decorated and typical of 18th-century taste.
Marie Leszczyńska is depicted with grace and majesty, wearing a richly ornamented red gown and a tiara. She is shown wearing her blue-of-France cape adorned with fleurs-de-lis. Noteworthy in the lower left corner is Queen Marie’s crown, a rare example of a crown belonging to a Queen of France, as nearly all such regalia were melted down during the French Revolution.
This painting depicts the queen on the day of her marriage to Louis XV, celebrated on August 15, 1725, in Strasbourg.
