J.-b. Van Loo (after) - Portrait Of Jeanne-agnès Berthelot De Pléneuf, Marquise De Prie
Oil on canvas (lined)
76 × 67 cm (with frame)
In 1762, Dezallier d'Argenville mentions a portrait of Jeanne-Agnès Berthelot de Pléneuf (1698-1727) painted by Jean-Baptiste Van Loo.
Jeanne-Agnès Berthelot de Pléneuf, Marquise de Prie, was a French aristocrat. Mistress to the Duc de Bourbon, for several years she exerted considerable influence at the court of the young Louis XV.
Van Loo's work was a great success, as evidenced by the many versions and revivals preserved today. A copy is notably preserved at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.
The portrait painted by Van Loo was engraved by Jacques Chéreau le Jeune (1688-1776).
The present painting constitutes a contemporary copy of the master's work.
