This rare, finely executed portrait depicts Anne de Lattre, abbess of the convent of Notre-Dame de Beaulieu in Sin-le-Noble, near Douai, between 1556 and 1607.
She is shown kneeling before her open Book of Hours, in an attitude of prayer and recollection.
Beneath her azure escutcheon with two golden chevrons, her motto can be distinguished: Penser i fault De Lattre.
