Jean-marc Nattier (after) - Portrait Of The Duchess Of Chaulnes - Pastel
Artist: Jean-marc Nattier (d’après)
Pastel depicting Anne-Josèphe Bonnier de La Mosson (1718–1787), Duchess of Chaulnes, after the eponymous work painted in 1744 by Jean-Marc Nattier, now in the Louvre Museum. The work is executed on blue paper laid down on canvas, the whole mounted on its original stretcher. A small restoration is visible in the background (upper right), which does not detract from the subject. This reproduction from the first half of the 19th century reflects the rediscovery of this artist, who was once a favorite of the ladies of the king's court. This portraitist of genius experienced a resurgence of renown in the 19th century, among artists who drew inspiration from 18th-century works.
