"16th Century French School, Portrait Of Anne De Lattre, Abbess Of Notre-dame De Beaulieu"
Copy after the painting in the Louvre Oil on panel – 52 x 39.5 cm (68 x 56 cm with frame) Period carved wooden frame. This rare portrait, of great finesse of execution, represents Anne de Lattre, abbess of the convent of Notre-Dame de Beaulieu in Sin-le-Noble, near Douai, between 1556 and 1607. She is depicted kneeling before her open book of hours, in an attitude of prayer and meditation. Beneath her azure coat of arms with two gold chevrons, we can see her motto: Penser i fault De Lattre. Daughter of Jean de Lattre (born in Douai in 1512, died around 1582), Anne de Lattre held the office of abbess for more than half a century, before dying between 1608 and 1609. The original model of this portrait is preserved in the Louvre Museum. Some traces of time, but good general condition of conservation. Superb period frame in carved wood, with an old and elegant patina.
