It is written on the back of the work: "René Delestang, son of Jean and Élisabeth Le Roy. Born on March 29, 1725, died in 1789."

René de Lestang was the son of Jean de Lestang, seigneur de Rochepot (1689-1743), and Élisabeth Le Roy. He married Catherine de Sainthorent in 1753. He became a king's advisor and public prosecutor in Issoudun (Indre).
