A beautiful circular reliquary made of silver-plated metal, with a beaded border, containing a relic attributed to Saint Andrew the Apostle, brother of Saint Peter.

Description

The relic is placed at the center of a small red fabric cross, set against a background of finely worked gold fabric, accompanied by its handwritten titulus: “S. Andreae Apost.” — Saint Andrew the Apostle.

On the reverse, the reliquary retains its ecclesiastical seal in red wax, stamped with the episcopal coat of arms and secured by four red silk threads. An old handwritten annotation mentions “Bruges” as well as an inventory number.

Saint Andrew, one of the twelve apostles of Christ and brother of Saint Peter, was, according to Christian tradition, martyred in Patras, Greece, on an X-shaped cross, now known as the Cross of Saint Andrew.
