Jean-michel Folon (1934–2005) – Calabash – Terracotta Vase – Model No. 16a
An important sculptural terracotta vase by Jean-Michel Folon (1934–2005), created at La Tuilerie de Treigny, in the Yonne department.
DESCRIPTION
Large in size and flattened in shape, reminiscent of a calabash, the vase features an incised decoration of stylized faces, immediately recognizable as part of Folon’s graphic and poetic vocabulary. The clay, deliberately left in its raw state, retains the irregularities of the shaping process, the variations in firing, and the characteristic texture of this production.
The base bears various studio stamps and Folon’s marks, notably “Folon,” “La Tuilerie – Treigny,” and “Plein Feu – Empreinte originale,” as well as the handwritten reference 16A.

Very good overall condition. Surface irregularities, variations in the material, firing marks, and small visible cracks are characteristic of the shaping and firing process of this significant artisanal ceramic piece.
