Pendant - Baroque Reliquary, Chiseled Silver, Openwork, Of Saint Liborius, Italy Or Tyrol, 18th Century
Baroque reliquary pendant of Saint Liborius
Southern Germany or Austria, 18th–19th century.
Oval reliquary pendant made of silver or silver-plated metal, featuring a richly openwork setting decorated with flowers, garlands of foliage, a laurel wreath, and ribbon bows.
In the center, a small relic of Saint Liborius, Bishop of Le Mans, set on a star-shaped mount, surrounded by golden rays against a red fabric background and edged with fine gold-thread trimmings.
Latin inscription: “Ex Ossibus S. Liborii Episc. et Conf.” (relic from the bones of Saint Liborius, bishop and confessor).
On the reverse, a large ecclesiastical seal bearing a coat of arms in red wax, with its sealing cords still intact. The reverse also features a rich floral design in openwork relief.
A fine example of religious goldsmithing, notable for the delicacy of its decoration and the preservation of its original reliquary setting.
