Reliquary Capsule (theca) Of Saint Agnes With Authentic, Rome, 1884
Silvered copper oval reliquary capsule (Theca), approx. 4 × 6 cm, containing a relic of Saint Agnes ("Ex Catacumbis S. Agnetis Virg. et Mart."), presented on a radiant background under glass. The reverse retains its original red wax ecclesiastical seal with silk ties. Accompanied by its original authentic ecclesiastical seal in Latin, issued in Rome in 1884 under the authority of Cardinal-Vicar Costantino Patrizi Naro. Document with printed coat of arms, handwritten inscriptions, signatures and embossed seal.
Saint Agnes is among the most venerated saints of the early Church. A virgin and martyr, she has been the object of a particularly important cult in Rome since the first centuries of Christianity. Her relics were widely preserved and honored in chapels, oratories and private devotional spaces in the 19th century.
