Ciborium (pyxis) In Gilded Copper With Arabesque (floral) Decoration And Angelots, Italy 17th/18th Century
Exceptional baroque ciborium/pyxis, probably Italy, late 17th - early 18th century.
Fire-gilt copper, repoussé, engraved and hallmarked decoration. The domed lid is adorned with three angels surrounding the instruments of Christ's Passion ("Arma Christi"): crown of thorns, scourging whip and veil of St. Veronica.
Finely worked openwork rim and richly ornamented pedestal. Also decorated inside.
